      Beloved of God,

I bid you welcome to another year of formation. As we begin, I invite you to resist the temptation to think simply as we are not here merely to learn more about the Church. We are here to be formed and fashioned into the image of Christ. Theological study, when undertaken seriously, should unsettle us as much as it informs us. It should cause us to examine what we believe, why we believe it, how we understand Scripture, and how faithfully our lives embody the Gospel we proclaim. The goal is to become more prayerful, more discerning and more faithful servants of Christ.

This will require something from you. Be prepared to think critically. Be willing to have your assumptions challenged. Read beyond what is comfortable, to listen to perspectives different from your own, and to allow your learning to meet the realities of ministry in the Church and in the world. Most importantly, do not separate your learning from your life with God. A person can do theology and remain spiritually unchanged. We must seek to let our study lead us back to Scripture, to prayer, to worship, to the life of the Church and to love for God's people.

My hope is that you be attentive to God, honest about yourself, grounded in your faith and that of the Church as you serve. So, begin this year with intention. Bring your mind, questions, faith and doubts. Bring your whole self and allow God to form you for the work to which He calls you. I look forward to sharing this journey with you.

May you “… know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the sharing of his sufferings by becoming like him in his death.” ~ Philippians 3:10

      Welcome!

      Grace and Peace
